Walmart Closes Vibe.co Acquisition, Locks Down $2.3 Billion CTV Ad Stack

Walmart finalized its acquisition of Vibe.co this week, six months after announcing the deal in June. The purchase folds Vibe's creative management platform directly into Walmart Connect, the retailer's connected TV advertising division that generated $3.4 billion in ad revenue last fiscal year. Walmart paid an undisclosed sum, though industry sources peg the transaction between $400 million and $550 million based on Vibe's $80 million trailing revenue and comparable SaaS ad-tech multiples.

Vibe.co built its business selling self-serve CTV campaign tools to mid-market brands—fitness studios, regional auto dealers, direct-to-consumer apparel lines. Walmart now owns that software layer and its 12,000 advertiser accounts, most of whom never bought Walmart media before. The integration gives Walmart Connect end-to-end control: creative production through Vibe's studio tools, campaign execution across 200 million monthly streaming households via partnerships with Roku and Samsung, and closed-loop attribution tied to Walmart's point-of-sale data. No other retail media network operates all three functions in-house at this scale.

This matters because it changes the negotiation structure for the six holding companies that place 68 percent of Walmart Connect's current bookings. Agencies previously managed creative internally, then bought Walmart inventory through programmatic pipes or direct IO deals. Now Walmart can offer a vertically integrated package—brand builds the ad in Vibe's platform, Walmart serves it across its owned-and-operated CTV footprint, and the retailer measures offline basket lift at 4,600 U.S. stores. The value proposition is tighter attribution, but the trade-off is reduced agency control over creative versioning and measurement methodology. Holding companies will need to decide whether Walmart's closed-loop data justifies ceding those levers, particularly for CPG clients whose trade budgets already flow heavily to Bentonville.

The acquisition also positions Walmart to compete for budgets currently split between YouTube, Hulu, and traditional linear upfronts. Retail media networks captured $54 billion in U.S. ad spend last year, with CTV representing the fastest-growing segment at 41 percent year-over-year growth. Amazon has been the category leader in streaming ads, but Walmart's combination of Vizio's Inscape data partnership—announced separately in August—and Vibe's creative layer creates a comparable tech stack without requiring advertisers to also buy e-commerce placements. That unbundling matters for categories like automotive and telecom, where the purchase happens offline but the research happens on the couch.

Allocators should watch for three developments in Q1. First, whether Walmart begins mandating Vibe creative tools as a condition for accessing its CTV inventory at preferred rates, which would force agencies to retrain teams or renegotiate SOWs. Second, how Walmart prices closed-loop attribution versus probabilistic panel-based measurement—if the premium exceeds 20 basis points, mid-market brands may revert to cheaper programmatic alternatives. Third, which legacy Vibe clients, particularly those in categories that don't sell at Walmart, choose to migrate off the platform now that it's owned by a retailer with its own private-label ambitions.

Walmart Connect is now hiring 200 additional sales and engineering roles in New York and Hoboken, the majority focused on CTV product integration, according to LinkedIn postings dated this week.

The takeaway
Walmart now controls CTV creative, serving, and attribution at **$3.4B** scale—forcing agencies to price closed-loop data against lost creative control.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
