Walmart Connect completed its acquisition of Vibe.co in December, four months after announcing the deal in June. The television advertising technology company is now operating inside Walmart's retail media unit, bringing programmatic connected TV infrastructure to a platform that generated $3.4 billion in advertising revenue during fiscal 2024. Terms remain undisclosed.
Vibe.co entered the transaction with a self-service platform for buying ads across 20 million connected TV screens and digital-out-of-home inventory. The company's stack includes demand-side platform technology that lets brands purchase CTV impressions programmatically, bypassing traditional upfront negotiations. Walmart Connect previously offered sponsored product ads, search placements, and display inventory across Walmart.com and the retailer's mobile application. Connected television was absent from the suite. The Vibe.co acquisition closes that gap without requiring Walmart to build the infrastructure internally.
The move matters because Walmart Connect competes directly with Amazon Ads, which generated $14.3 billion in the quarter ending September 2024. Amazon's advertising business grew 19 percent year-over-year in that period, driven partly by streaming inventory on Prime Video and Freevee. Walmart's retail media operation trails substantially in scale but holds an advantage in physical store traffic data. The retailer operates 4,616 locations in the United States, creating closed-loop measurement possibilities that pure-play e-commerce platforms cannot replicate. Folding Vibe.co's programmatic capabilities into Connect allows Walmart to marry in-store purchase data with CTV impression delivery, a combination that appeals to consumer packaged goods brands allocating budgets between awareness and conversion tactics.
The four-month integration timeline between announcement and close is tight by retail media standards. Most advertising technology acquisitions require six to nine months for regulatory clearance and system integration. The faster cadence suggests either limited overlap in Vibe.co's existing client roster with Walmart's endemic advertisers, or a decision to run parallel operations temporarily while technical work proceeds. Walmart Connect has not disclosed whether Vibe.co's existing publisher relationships will continue or be absorbed into Walmart-owned inventory exclusively.
Operators and allocators should monitor Walmart Connect's upfront presentations in the first quarter of 2025, where the combined CTV offering will likely debut with measurement case studies. Watch also for any disclosure of Vibe.co's prior revenue scale, which would clarify whether this acquisition was a capability purchase or a revenue acceleration play. Walmart reports fiscal Q4 2025 earnings on February 20, 2025. Management commentary on Connect's programmatic TV rollout timeline and any updated full-year advertising revenue guidance would indicate whether Vibe.co's stack is already serving live campaigns or remains in integration.
The acquisition converts Walmart Connect from a lower-funnel search and display unit into a platform capable of delivering brand advertising at television scale, using first-party retail data that neither traditional TV networks nor most streaming services possess.
